Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, students are expected to:
- Apply various methods for evaluating intervention programs, including quantitative and qualitative research designs.
- Use participatory methods to involve stakeholders in the evaluation process.
- Collect and appraise the literature to inform health promotion actions.
- Utilize ethical and culturally appropriate approaches for program evaluation.
- Apply the STROBE, CONSORT, and TREND criteria based on the research design of the study.
Course Content
The course provides students with basic knowledge and skills related to the design, implementation, analysis, and interpretation of research in the field of health promotion. It covers the entire research process, including qualitative and quantitative research. Emphasis is given to the methodology of participatory research as a tool for action in health promotion. The process of publishing research studies and developing proposals for funding is presented. Specifically, the course includes the following topics:
- Foundations of research in health promotion and basic steps in research process.
- Philosophy of science and ethical issues in health promotion research.
- Observational study design.
- Issues in conducting observational research.
- Experimental study design.
- Quasi-experimental study design.
- Methodological issues in the design and implementation of randomized controlled trials in health promotion.
- Participatory research in the community.
- Methodology of qualitative analysis.
- Introduction to scientific publication writing.
- Understanding the process of funding program proposals.
- Writing program funding proposals (project proposals).
